Camp Sabros (short for Sacdalan Brothers) is an outdoor adventure camp nestled atop the cool highlands of Kapatagan in Digos City, Davao del Sur. The camp is managed by brothers Edwin and Pando Sacdalan and was launched last December 25, 2007.

The weather on this eco-adventure site can be very cold since it is situated 3,980 feet above sea level and is surrounded by pine trees across its landscape. The camp offers a relaxing view of the surrounding mountains and if you are lucky enough, you can also get the chance to have an amazing panoramic view of the peak of Mount Apo during a clear day.

The zip line ride is the camp’s primary attraction and the main reason why people from different places go to Camp Sabros. The camp is currently noted for having two of Philippines’ longest zip lines with its 380 and 400 meters zip lines situated at 180 feet above the ground.

Last February 2009, I was in Davao City for a 4-day vacation together with my office colleagues and one of our planned activities during our trip was to experience the thrilling adrenaline rush of zip lining at Camp Sabros.

We hired a van from Davao City that would take us to Digos City. Upon reaching the checkpoint area in Kapatagan, Digos City, we rode a motorcycle on our way up to Camp Sabros. Our group arrived at Camp Sabros at around 12 noon. After strolling and taking some pictures around the place, we decided to take the first two rounds of our zip line adventure – the tandem ride on 380 meter zip line which took us 50 seconds and the solo ride on 400 meter zip line which took us almost 30 seconds on the average.

The zip line ride was performed in a lying position as we fly and glide into the air. Helmets were provided and our bodies were safely fastened to the harness which was hooked to a very thick cable wire during the ride. We continued with the other half of our zip line adventure after having our lunch at the deli. The next rides we had were another tandem ride on 380 meter zip line and then finally the cable lift ride which lasted for almost 5 minutes as we enjoyed the scenic view of the lush green wilderness below us.

We left the camp at around 4.30 p.m., trekked back to the checkpoint area and then headed back to Davao City. All of us were tired but were very much delighted of the exciting and thrilling experience we had that we’d want to do it over and over again.

Getting There

From Davao City or General Santos City, hire a private vehicle (a 4-wheel drive vehicle or SUV is recommended) that would take you to Digos City. Travel time will take you about two (2) hours from Davao City. Upon reaching Kapatagan, you may park your vehicles at the base camp of Mt. Apo National Park and Mountaineering/Trekkers Information Center, which is a military checkpoint in Sitio Baras, Kapatagan, Digos City. From there, you may ride a motorcycle (P30/pax) or you may opt to trek uphill for about 20 minutes to get to Camp Sabros.

Food and Drinks

You may bring your own food & drinks and have a picnic at Camp Sabros. For those who do not wish to bring packed foods, the deli at Camp Sabros serves affordable foods which range from P20.00 to less than a hundred per order. The mini store on the other hand, sells junk foods and soft drinks.
