As we arrived at Basco Airport, we saw the driver, Kuya Nards, and the receptionist of Batanes Resort, Ate Rose, waiting for us at the arrival lounge holding a placard with Icey’s name on it. As we approached them, they welcomed us and have been very friendly and accommodating to us. They even assisted us on the booths where we should sign and pay for our tourist fees. Batanes Resort is just a few minutes drive from Basco Airport and is a government-owned resort nestled atop a hill which offers a great panoramic view of the South China Sea.

Batanes Resort View from top of the hill
Last 2008, the resort comprises six (6) duplex bungalows inspired by the traditional Ivatan stone houses but they have recently renovated and it now has 10 stone houses. Each room is spacious enough to accommodate three (3) persons. The cottages are concrete and are made of stones with wide windows and red-colored roofs. The six original cottages are named after the six municipalities of Batanes namely: Ivana, Uyugan, Mahatao, Basco, Sabtang and Itbayat. Of all the cottages, we recommend the rooms on ‘Itbayat’ because they offer an unobstructed view of the South China Sea.
We can say that this resort is one of the best choices in the area because of its reasonable rates. It just costs us P1,000.00 per room/per night for 3 pax already. I am just not sure if they have increased their rates now.
Their rooms are nice (nothing fancy), clean and very cozy. All Batanes Resort rooms have the following:
- Two Beds (Queen-sized and Single beds)
- Airconditioning
- Private Toilet and Bath
- Hot and Cold Shower
- Cable TV
- Ceiling Fan
- Lamps
- Drawer with Bible + Candles inside
- Huge Cabinets + Hangers
- Intercom
- Basic Toilettries (toothpaste in sachet, small soap, shampoo in sachet)
*A standby generator is readily available in case of brown outs. But in our case, they only used the generator in the morning.
The staffs of Batanes Resort are very friendly and accommodating. The service they gave us was superb and was way beyond any expectations that we had. They always make it a point to greet their guests with a smile and simple words such as “Good Morning,” “Good Afternoon,” “Good Evening,” every time they get to see us.

Ate Rose and Kuya Nards of Batanes Resort
The resort is surrounded by green pastures with different varieties of flowers. The reception area is very clean and simple with its nicely designed ceilings and red-tiled floorings. It has comfortable leather sofa for their guests and has some Batanes handicrafts which depict the talents of the Ivatans.
Just behind the reception area is the resort’s kitchen and restaurant that serves a hearty meal and native delicacies. The restaurant has two crystal chandeliers hanging on its high ceilings. It has monobloc plastic chairs and tables which are covered with white table cloths during mealtimes. Just outside the restaurant is another covered area with aluminium tables and chairs and terrace overlooking the South China Sea. The guest may opt to eat and stay here if they want. Each viand is already good for 2 to 3 pax and may costs P50.00 for veggies and P100.00 to P200.oo for other meat viands. In case you have your own food preferences, feel free to inform them and they will be very eager to accommodate them for you.
Another tip, there is actually a hill located at the back of the cottages in Batanes Resort, you might want to try climbing up that hill for you to have a nice view of the island.

Hi Psyche!
Sige join lang ng join.
Thanks for dropping by.
Hi. I want to go to Batanes!
How much did you spend for this trip? Overall.
Ok lang ba if i-link ko kayo sa site ko? Para easier for me to remember your site.
Hi Camae,
All in all including air fares cost us almost 50 to 60K for 3pax. Sure, you may link us.
Hi Kuya Nards!
Php1800 na?! Anu un, per room pa rin ba? And good for 3 persons pa rin ba un? Or may additional charge na pag more than 3 sa isang room? Regards sa inyo dyan.
@psyche: lahat welcome dito! balik ka ha?
@camae: Sure, no problem!
Hi Badz,
Yup. Yun ata ang uso before nung wala pang masyadong resorts and lodging sa Batanes. Kaya for sure marami pa ring mga transient houses doon ngayon.
Hi. Do you have any tour packages which include airfare? I badly wanna go to batanes but im kinda workin under a tight budget. Good for 2 pax lang sana. Thanks! Please contact me through email: feralvixen24@yahoo.com
3 days and 2 nights sana. Saturday and Sunday, then I’d have to be back to manila by monday, 12pm. Or maybe I could squeeze friday in. Absent na lang ko sa work. Lol.
Hi Kate, sorry po, but we don’t arrange trips to Batanes. Just try contacting Kuya Nards of Batanes Resort through the numbers listed above. Maybe he can help you with it.
Thanks!
Thanks so much wayne!
Hi,
Cannot be reached po lahat ng contact nos. listed above. Does the resort still have any other contact info? Hope you can share.
Many thanks,
Jill
Hi Jill,
The contact numbers listed above were all based on our September 2008 trip. I am unsure whether they have changed their landline numbers but as far as I can remember, I was able to get in touch with Kuya Nards last August 2009 through his cellphone number above. Have your tried calling him?
hello… im an ivatan… yup punta kau dun… lyk nyu free yung house namin dun wehehehe… jowke… pero sriously… super ganda sa amin… tnx to all na nakakaapreciate
Casper: Yeah, super! Babalik ako dyan. Sure yan.
hi wayne,
did you have to pay a 50% deposit to secure a room at batanes resort? if you did, how (i.e. via bank transfer, cash, credit card, etc.)? nag-book kasi ako ng room in the same resort and i was asked to pay a deposit via bank transfer to a personal bank account. wala pa daw account ang batanes resort itself which i find a bit strange considering they’ve been operating for years now. just wanted to check how you guys made the booking and how you settled payments.
hope to hear from you! thanks!
Hi Edlou,
No, we didn’t. At that time, tinanong din namin kung papano yung reservation sa kanila. Kung kailangan pa ba namin magdeposit or not.
I’m just not sure how they do it now.
hi wayne!
salamat! my friend’s friend rin hindi nag-deposit pero unlike you they paid for the rooms upon check-in. looks like iba-iba ang rules & regulations nila ano?! we’ll see how it goes for us and will let you know. visitors to your site might be interested rin to know.
Thanks pls help plan namin January. Thanks.
Hi Edlou,
Siguro nga ganun. Just be careful.
Thanks in advance! Goodluck to your trip. Enjoy!
Hi Jen,
Separate yung fare namin, then kinontak namin mismo yung Batanes Resort for our reservations. Then nagkataon lang na meron na ring available tour guide sa resort so dun na lang din kami kumuha. Yung trip din namin sa Batanes was last 2008 pa so baka nagincrease na rin ang mga rates doon ngayon.
Hi wayne,
Ilan ba kayong pupunta? Kami kasi nun, almost 50-60K ang nagastos namin nun for our 6D/5N stay for 3pax. So parang tig-15-20K per head kami.
ah ok..dalawa lang kami mag asawa pupunta so 50k lahat pag kami 2.
Parang ganun na nga. Mahal na kasi yung fare ngayon papunta doon. Kaya medyo mahal na talaga yung budget na kailangan. Hmm, try nyo rin magresearch ng mga updated rates ngayon sa Batanes then try to compare kung saan kayo mas makakamura.
I plan to go with my brother from April 22-24, 2010. If anyone is interested to join the sightseeing tours so we can save, pls call Romy Merida , one of the best tour guides in Batanes. He will hire an adventure-0916-902-6712. First 2 days of sightseeing is 2k per day while the 3rd day( Sabtang Island) is 1.500/day. Tour guide gets paid 1k/day. So if we can get from 2-6 pax, costs will dramatically drop.
Pls call Romy Merida( 0916-902-6712), one of the best tour guides if you plan to go to Batanes from April 22-24, 2010 to bring down costs of the sightseeing including Sabtang Islands. Other costs are minimal, boat ride 100/pax, sabtang tourist fee 100 etc
Mang Nards ( of Batanes Resort). Please help me get a group to join me in sightseeing tour so costs will be divided among the number of people, If costs of sightseeing tour plus tour guide will be P8,500 for 3 full days and 8 people can join, that will only be 1,070 per person for the whole duration of 3 days. This will be from April 22-24, 2010. Pls email chrisher080604@yahoo.com or text 0917-8427955
Is BatanesResort closer to Basco or to Mahatao ? We’re planning to visit late May 2010. Hopefully the rainy season doesn’t start yet.:-(
thanks,
Josh
Joshua: It’s closer to Basco.
Summer pa naman ata yung May. Ok lang yan. Enjoy din maka-witness ng bagyo sa Batanes.
Thanks Wayne.
Joshua
Walang anuman Joshua. Enjoy and have a safe trip.
si kuya nards kamukha ni kuya bodjie ng batibot.. papunta kami this april sa batanes.. thanks for this blog

Opps.. I meant 2011
Yeah, you really should. Para tuluy na tuloy na.
has anyone withness that Kulay Festival ? Please share some info
Thanks so much
Nope, we haven’t. But we’d love too!
Im so disappointed with Batanes Resort. Today is the 5th time I called them up to text me the account number and the amount I need to pay in advance. Nada. wala pa rin text until now. The girl I spoke to during my 4th call just laughed when I complained that it was the 4th time I followed-up with them. I even complained to the manager na yesterday kasi nga pwerwisyo na. Sayang pa sa load! He promised he’ll text me right after our conservation. Im still waiting in vain!
Ianini, sorry to hear that.
hi!
i was wondering if youre still in touch with the folks at Batanes Resort? Ive been contacting the numbers you posted, as well as kuya Nards’ to make reservations but I cannot seem to contact them.
Also, im planning to go this End Sept-Early Oct (Seair had a seat sale ;p) any feedback on the weather there during that time?
thanks a bunch!
We went there September of 2008. Ok naman yung weather noon, nakachamba. Hehehe. Though nakaexperience kami ng bagyo in the middle of the week kaya nastranded yung flights nung ibang mga kasabay namin. Hehehe.
Hi all,
I am sure all the goodies published here are true. Unfortutanely I am very sad to say that those days were long gone. This resort (If one can call it a resort) is nothing but a PIT STOP. management of this place is second to hell. I’m sorry to say all these but…. The location is perfect but that’s about what is good in this place. I strongly recommend to stay at private places. This is a gov’t run hostel. Yes a hostel not a hotel.
Sorry Wayne and all. I have to say it to help future visitors avoid the traps from this hostel. I am not saying not to stay at this trap but I am warning you to stay away from this place.
Hal
Hi Hal and all,
We just got back from that island and I agree 110% with Hal. Things changed I guess since Wayne and co. went there. No offense but I’d rather stay in a cheap private house/hotel but not in this Batanes Resort. Service was lousy, food is yucky and the environment is dirty. Since the day we checked- in there was this used qtip on the walkway infront of our door. It stayed there until we left because nobody even sweep the walkways. Cigarette butts all over the place and the way down to the beach was full of garbage, plastic spoons food wrappers, used tissue papers etc, etc……. Amazing.
I guess if you are in a tour group, should be okay because you will be gone all day everyday.
Not worth your money staying in this place!!!!!!!! They just want your money without providing good service. Towns people told us that there were so many complaints about this hotel but noone is making any action. Juts like what Hal said… Tourist Trap !!!!!
Jay
Hi Hal and Jay,
I’m sorry to hear that.
Yes, during our stay there 2 years ago, everything seemed to be fine. Just not sure how things are goin’ on there this days. I hope that the government would do something about this.
Yes it is really sad Wayne. Then again maybe we were just unlucky during our stay . I thought of formally filing a complaint to the management. I was sadly told that the manager of this resort is a mechanic or electrician. No formal hotel management training. I almost fainted.
I am waiting for answer from someone in the island. I need to know if this is run by local or provincial gov’t. I will send my complain either to the mayor of Basco or the governor.
Our view…..
We just got back. Two prs of retirees. Me and my husband retired back in Bulacan, The other couple stayed in Florida USA. We always revisit places we’ve been in 3 years cycle. We travel every year, the four of us.
Anyway this year was Philippines in our 3 year cycle and Batanes,Boracay,Guimarias,Sorsogon,Cebu,Tagaytay,Manila,Baguio,Mt Province were the usual. We did Batanes last. To our surprise Batanes doesn’t seem to advance as far as tourism is concerned. The plane fare is also enormously expensive. Bottom line, Batanes is no longer in our list. The island seems to be a dead end. Not showing anything that will please the tourists. The Gov’t do not care at all. For the local tourists who wants a better deal for their hard earned PHP, go Boracay or Guimarias. It is cheaper and beaches are well worth. Hotels provide 5 stars service.
Mountain ranges in Batanes and coastline will stay and will be there forever. It’s better to wait until the authorities in Batanes learn how to respect tourists and their monies. For diving enthusiasts, dive with the Whale sharks in Sorsogon. We did and it’s worth your money. In Batanes you can’t even swim. Monster and killer waves everytime and everywhere. Palawan is another place to go.
This is our own observation and we are not trying to influence your decision where to spend your hard earned PHP or $$. Just giving you our point of view that Batanes is no longer a viable place to visit.
Batanes is advancing backwards. The gov’t take tourist monies and never look back. There are no services for tourists at all. Zippo! People in the island are nice . Actually there is no nightlife in that island. This was the 3rd time we visited Batanes. It may be awhile before we even think of going back . Before closing, there is this place I forgot to mention in Cebu called Malapascua island. Heck of a place. It’s an adventure to get there but it’s well worth it… fun.
Kurt,Jenni,Sally and Fred
Hi,
does anyone know what’s the next best resort/hotel to stay in Batanes? My husband and I plan to go there this Dec for our anniversary
Thanks,
Lyn
