Coron Village Lodge Review

Coron Village Lodge Review

Accommodations in Coron can get quite expensive so I’ve decided to search the Internet for a list of affordable accommodations for our 6-day stay last November 2008 in the island. After doing some researches and reading reviews of these accommodations, we have finally decided to make our reservation at Coron Village Lodge.

Coron Village Lodge used to be an old 5-room family house of the Fernandez’s which was then converted to a real lodge and now comprises of 22 rooms. It is situated along the main road in the town of Coron and is a 5 to 10-minute walk to the market, to other restaurants and to the wharf.

Coron, Palawan: Philippines’ Untouched Beauty

Coron, Palawan: Philippines’ Untouched Beauty

Last July 2008, while I was browsing the Asian Spirit’s (now known as Zest Airways) website and was searching for flights bound to Batanes, I stumbled upon some great photos of a new, unknown-to-me destination in the Philippines, Busuanga.

I tried to Google it and was truly fascinated with what I found – loads of stunning snapshots of Busuanga and Coron in Palawan. I told myself, this really is a must-see place so I immediately added it on my list of dream destinations in the Philippines.

Batanes Handicrafts, Souvenirs and Delicacies

Batanes Handicrafts, Souvenirs and Delicacies

Our trip to Batanes will never be complete without taking home a piece of the paradise up North. While we were strolling along a road in Basco, we found a shop that sells Batanes handicrafts, souvenirs and delicacies. The store has all sorts of handicrafts and souvenir items such as hats, baskets, bags, and coin purse made of rattan, keychains, ref magnets, postcards, greeting cards and souvenir T-shirts. Aside from these items, our attention was also caught by these cute souvenirs that are replicas of what you will most likely see in the island – stone houses and Ivatans.

Sabtang Island, Batanes

Sabtang Island, Batanes

On our third day in Batanes, we woke up early and got ready for our Sabtang island tour. Sabtang is an island municipality across Batan and is a 45-minute falowa (banca without outriggers) ride away from the port of Ivana. In 1994, Sabtang has been chosen by the Philippine Department of Tourism as one of the 12 best destinations in the country.

Another couple, Elsie and Mark, whom we met at the airport and also stayed in Batanes Resort, have decided to join us on our trip. Nice. (This means we can save a few bucks on the island tour.) We left the resort at around 6.15 a.m. then took a tricycle and headed to the port of Ivana. As we arrived, we found out that the falowa was ready to leave and was just waiting for us. We hurriedly jumped inside the boat, wore our life vests and headed to Sabtang island.

Batanes Resort Review

Batanes Resort Review

As we arrived at Basco Airport, we saw the driver, Kuya Nards, and the receptionist of Batanes Resort, Ate Rose, waiting for us at the arrival lounge holding a placard with Icey’s name on it. As we approached them, they welcomed us and have been very friendly and accommodating to us. They even assisted us on the booths where we should sign and pay for our tourist fees. Batanes Resort is just a few minutes drive from Basco Airport and is a government-owned resort nestled atop a hill which offers a great panoramic view of the South China Sea.
