People’s Park in Davao City

People’s Park in Davao City

Months before our trip to the largest city on the island of Mindanao, I had already been searching the Internet for a list of must-see places and attractions in Davao. I stumbled upon Flickr and saw a great number of awesome Davao photos but my attention was caught by those gigantic sculptures of durian and the Philippine eagle.

We decided to look for these gigantic sculptures during our last day in Davao, since our flight bound to Manila was scheduled in the afternoon. One of our colleagues, Mimi, who was from Davao served as our tour guide/photographer for that day and took us to the People’s Park.

White Water Rafting in Davao

White Water Rafting in Davao

One of the most thrilling activities available in Davao City, aside from the zip line adventure, is the white water rafting (also called WWR.) According to Wikipedia, “white water rafting is a challenging recreational activity using an inflatable raft to navigate a river or other bodies of water.”

I was able to experience Cagayan de Oro’s white water rafting adventure last June 2008 so I suggested to my colleagues that we should also include this as part of our planned activities in Davao. Diving at Marissa Reef in Samal Island, Davao

Diving at Marissa Reef in Samal Island, Davao

Davao is well blessed with over 23 dive sites in Samal Island alone and is truly a haven for scuba divers and underwater photographers. So as part of our planned activities in Davao last February 2008, my friends and I decided to go diving in one of the many available dive sites in Samal Island, the Marissa Reef.

Marissa Reef is approximately a 30 to 45-minute boat ride from Sta. Ana Wharf Davao and is situated at the southeast side of Samal Island near the Pearl Farm Beach Resort. It was named after the person who started the underwater photography in the island, Marissa Florendo, who also happened to be the daughter of the discoverer.

Experience Zip Line at Camp Sabros, Davao Del Sur

Camp Sabros (short for Sacdalan Brothers) is an outdoor adventure camp nestled atop the cool highlands of Kapatagan in Digos City, Davao del Sur. The camp is managed by brothers Edwin and Pando Sacdalan and was launched last December 25, 2007.

The weather on this eco-adventure site can be very cold since it is situated 3,980 feet above sea level and is surrounded by pine trees across its landscape. The camp offers a relaxing view of the surrounding mountains and if you are lucky enough, you can also get the chance to have an amazing panoramic view of the peak of Mount Apo during a clear day.
